My first post will be a rant about my stubborn and old fashioned dad. Sorry.
So tonight we had a bunch of Stanford masters students over at our
house for a holiday dinner. And they were all talking and talking
and most of these people are like bio students and stuff and my dad was
just like "what jobs can you get" and all that good stuff. You can tell
my dad was just talking crap and not keeping up at all with the
times. My dad, I think is a very arrogant person who always
thinks his ideas are best, that his opinions are always right and if
other people don't do things or think the same way he does, they are
stupid and wrong.
"Okay dad, you're the one that has no friends, unemployed and is never
going to get a job here because you're old and your abilities are so
outdated. So you shouldn't really be the one to criticize other people,
especially when they have and still are more successful than you have
ever been."
Then he was being totally sexist saying that it's not as important if
women can't get a job, or at least a well paying one, because they just
need to find a good husband. And you know, that does kinda make sense
and that's how it is....IN THE 1960's. We're freakin'
living in 21st century america and I don't know how much further away
you can get from all the barefoot wife crap. And of course, he
was saying this to 5 women studying for their masters at
stanford. They couldn't really disrespect an elder in his own
house, but that just makes it worse because then he thinks that he's
right.
My parents are ignorant people, but my mom's not so bad. They may
seem really up to date and all but really, they don't get out in the
world and their minds are so set on what they grew up with and what
they believe is right, that they just assume everything and make it
into something that agrees with them. It's really sad. The
saddest kind of people are the people who have already set their mind
on one outlook on life and won't ever change.
